The circa-1888 hotel known as “the old Yesterday’s building” underwent an $8 million makeover. Re-named the Tomorrow Building, it is now home to 39 residential apartment units above several commercial spaces. The renovation of this historic icon in the heart of downtown Chattanooga was a collaborative effort with Lamppost Properties and the River City Company.
The original wood-and-brick structure atop a limestone foundation was compromised by decades of exposure to ground and rain water as well as sewer leakage. After complete demolition and rebuilding of all non-structural walls and floors, the building has renewed status as a local landmark as well as the distinction of housing innovative technology, such as a dedicated one gigabyte of fiber internet in each apartment unit.
